At ObsidianWire we exclusively use CTS® pots, with many of the pots we use being custom manufactured by CTS® to our own premium specs
Premium Specs
- Brass Shaft & Bushing - Excellent long life and durability
- Audio Taper - Smooth & natural sounding tone and volume control adjustment (we use extra wiring magic to finesse this further)
- Tight (+/-10) Tolerance - Ensures that the tone and volume controls work as designed, with a guaranteed value no more that 10% above or below the specified value
Shaft Types
ObsidianWire offers two types of pot shaft, with both requiring US spec knobs.
Split Shaft - 24 spline // As used on most Gibson® style guitars as well as Fender® Stratocasters®.
Solid Shaft - 1/4" // As used on most Fender® Telecasters® and bass guitars

Torque Rating // Feel
CTS® offers two types of 'Torque' rating, with each requiring a different level of force to urn the knob
Low Torque - Requires less turning force which results in a control knob that is super easy to turn, making them great for volume swells etc.
Standard Torque - These require more turning force but often feel a little more sturdy, with some players describing them as having a more premium feel.
At ObsidianWire® we use both high and low torque pots depending on the build and control position. If you have a preference, please contact us to enquire
Why no CTS marking?
The pots we use are custom made to our spec by CTS. We specify what markings are placed on the back, so you may see [pots stamped with 'OBSIDIANWIRE' or our own internal SKU codes.
